Pilar Perez is the curator of this prestigious event. Highlights of her recent professional experience include being curator of the Morono Kiang Gallery in Los Angeles, curator and organizer of the 6th Annual Mexico City Book Fair, executive director of 826LA (a non-profit organization supporting 6 to 18 year olds with their creative and expository writing skills) and co-founder of Perceval Press. Perez lived in Vallarta in the sixties, and this project is very personal for her. She is the daughter of Tony Perez, who was involved in Vallarta tourism in the early days. “After my father died, I often dreamed of returning to Vallarta to take up where he left off, but it was never the right time. Now, I feel it is, and I hope I can contribute in some small way to the cultural landscape of this extraordinary place.”

Serious art collectors build their travel around collecting. Puerto Vallarta: Arte Contemporáneo will highlight a vast array of quality works with the intention of enticing contemporary art aficionados to include Puerto Vallarta in general and this festival in particular in their future travel plans.

Traditionally, the local Art Walk season ended in March or April, but the final Art Walk of the 2007/2008 season will be May 2 8, which coincides with the first day of the festival. The overlap with “Vallarta Lifestyles’” annual Restaurant Week (pg. 97) is quickly turning May into the new “destination” month for Vallarta.

En su reciente experiencia profesional destacan ser curadora de la Morono Kiag Gallery de Los Ángeles, trabajar como curadora y organizadora de la 6ª Feria del Libro en la Ciudad de México, ser directora ejecutiva de 826LA (una organización sin fines de lucro que apoya a jóvenes de entre 6 y 18 años con sus habilidades creativas de escritura), y ser cofundadora de Perceval Press. Pérez vivió en Vallarta en los años sesenta y este proyecto es muy personal para ella, pues es hija de Tony Pérez, quien estuvo involucrado en los primeros días del turismo de Vallarta. “Después de que mi padre murió, a menudo soñaba con regresar a Vallarta para retomar lo que él había dejado, pero nunca fue el momento adecuado. Ahora siento que lo es y espero poder contribuir, aunque sea de manera pequeña, al ambiente cultural de este extraordinario lugar.”

Puerto Vallarta: Arte Contemporáneo resaltará una gran cantidad de obras de calidad con la intención de seducir a los aficionados del arte contemporáneo para que incluyan a Puerto Vallarta en general, y a este festival en particular en sus futuros planes de viaje.

Tradicionalmente, la temporada del Camino del Arte terminaba en marzo o en abril, pero este año el final de la temporada será el 28 de mayo, el cual coincide con el primer día del festival. Esto también se superpondrá con el evento anual Restaurant Week de “Vallarta Lifestyles” (pg. 97), lo cual está convirtiendo a mayo en el nuevo mes “de destino” para Vallarta.
