Talented artist Laurie Chase was inspired to paint “Beach Club Punta de Mita” because it epitomized to her the “essence and beauty of the Vallarta playa.” This enchanting painting was featured on the cover of the Winter/Spring 2008 issue of this publication. Subsequently, Chase produced a limited edition of 95 signed and numbered Giclée prints. Who knew that Puerto Vallarta has its own radio control airplane club? Apparently, Barcelona Tapas owner Bill Carballo did. (Thanks for the tip, Bill!) The goal of Aguilas de Puerto Vallarta, the San Vicente, Nayarit-based organization, is to design, build and fly model airplanes, whether they are replicas of existing models or original designs.
The club meets at its landing strip on the outskirts of San Vicente, approximately 30 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, where both beginner and expert pilots are welcome every Saturday. Special training sessions are held for beginners wishing to discover this fascinating pastime. If you are hooked, there is plenty of information regarding specialized shops where you might be able to purchase your first radio control airplane.
Gracias a un tip que recibimos del restaurantero Bill Carballo, nos enteramos de las interesantes actividades del Club de Aeromodelismo “Águilas de Puerto Vallarta”, cuyo objetivo es diseñar, construir y hacer volar aviones a escala, ya sean réplicas exactas de aviones existentes o diseños exclusivos para este completísimo pasatiempo.
